The old Kmart on Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire has been vacant for years, leading many of us to wonder if anything would ever take its place. Wonder no more: Midwest grocery chain Hy-Vee purchased the building, demolition began in November, and a new store will open later this year. Next up is the River Prairie Development in Altoona, which continues to evolve into a beautiful space for locals to enjoy. It’s safe to say The Cannery District just across the river from downtown Eau Claire is seeing more traffic than ever before: People are checking out new living spaces with the completion of The Current apartments. –Caitlin Boyle
