The 20th year of Rockonsin will kick off its stage presence June 28-29 at Milwaukee's Summerfest, but before then, young rockers are invited to duke it out in the application process. It's free to apply for your shot to shine at Summerfest, with applications opening March 1.

Exclusive to Wisconsin musicians in grades 7-12, Rockonsin is the only statewide youth music competition of its kind in the nation. Three music industry professionals will review and score all band application videos to determine who fills the Top 10 and gets invited to compete at the State Finals at Summerfest. Each Top 10 finalist will receive two Shure microphones and will perform 20-minute showcase sets, the top two bands each earning an additional 45-minute showcase gig at Summerfest, a Rockonsin Award, and a professional recording sesh at Madison’s Blast House Studios.

Last year, local bands 30 Minute Difference and Resonate made it to the finals round at Summerfest.

There is no registration fee or any fees to participate in the competition, and it’s open to all Wisconsin students in grades 7-12. Each band must be comprised of two or more musicians, one member being a vocalist.

Applications are open March 1-April 30, and one video of either one cover or an original song should be submitted in addition to the online application.
