For professionals and those seeking an elevated, exclusive space for business-related and networking needs, BONDS may be the place for you. Slated to open in the spring of 2024, BONDS will be at 3732 Spooner Ave., Altoona, formerly home to Modicum Brewing Co.

With 3,700 square feet, BONDS will be able to host as many as 160 guests at one time throughout its various lounges and meeting spaces. It will be a members-only space with a maximum of 300 full-time members, an electronics policy – leaning into its exclusivity by limiting photography and videography inside, featuring a designated selfie area, and denying social media mentions – and a dress code.

The main lounge will house a variety of seating at the bar and high-top tables to Chesterfield sofas, while The Vault – a private meeting space inside an actual vault formerly used by Citizens Community Credit Union at the same location – can host groups from four to 12 individuals. Two six-person booths will also be available by reservation and offer private bottle service after 5pm while open.

BONDS is currently offering its pre-opening memberships at discounted prices with just 50 memberships up for grabs. Those first 50 members will be “Founders Club” members, available at three tiers:

  • The Founders Club – Flex (36-month commitment)
    • $2,500
    • Individual
  • The Founders Club – Power Couple (36-month commitment)
    • $4,000
    • Members at this level must have the same home address, billing account
  • The Founders Club – Enterprise (36-month commitment)
    • $8,000
    • Up to four employees from one organization may utilize this membership

“BONDS has done extensive market research of their competitors regionally, their price point, and their amenities,” the BONDS team said via email.

Beginning Dec. 1, BONDS annual, biannual, and quarterly memberships will also become available.

“There is no doubt that Eau Claire does entrepreneurship well, however, there is a void for more established business owners and professionals to have a space that focuses on high-level professional development, more unique meeting space options, and private space to network and bring clients,” the BONDS team said. “BONDS was built for business owners, by business owners.”

BONDS will be operated by Eau Claire Social Club LLC, which is registered to Altoona resident Randi McVinnie. McVinnie and Jeff Olson formerly operated Connell’s Supper Club and Connell’s Club 12. BONDS will be managed by Mallory Ballard, who formerly worked with Minnesota-based organizations Lincoln Hospitality Group and The Monarch Group.

As well as being a co-working and social club, BONDS will also house Eddie’s Speakeasy, a member-only 1920s-themed hangout with a full-service bar. The Altoona City Council approved a Class B liquor license for BONDS at its Sept. 28 meeting, which went into effect on Nov. 1 so the business could start ordering supplies ahead of its opening.

“Altoona was chosen as the site location because the owner felt the city’s vision to look into the future and try new concepts aligned well with the project,” BONDS said.

The new business will serve craft cocktails, wines, and a large zero-proof menu. It will not feature food.

BONDS will be open Monday-Friday from 7am-10pm and Saturday from 9am-10pm, with potential additional hours to meet the needs of its members.
