For the Hobby has been playin’ its cards right for more than a year now, opening at the tail-end of 2021 as a unique sort of sports fun zone, serving the community as a sports card shop – something owner Jordan Hagedorn would have liked to have had in his own childhood.

Now, just a few months past its one-year milestone, For the Hobby is bringing another new-to-the-area experience for card hobbyists: the Eau Claire Card Show.

For the Hobby is hosting its first Eau Claire Card Show event on Saturday, May 20, from 10am-6pm at the L.E. Phillips YMCA Sports Center. The day will be bustin’ out giveaways, offering games, and featuring some great vendors – all free.

“I’ve met so many great hobbyists over the last few years and really want to create a really fun experience in our hometown that people can get excited about cards and the awesome connections cards create,” Hagedorn explained. “The more joy we can spread, the better, and the show is a great way to do that.”

"The energy at our card show will be second to none."

The local card shop has drawn in community members of all ages too, from young kids to teens, adults, and older folks, all walking through the shop’s doors to engage with a mutual appreciation for sports cards.

“It’s the people that make the hobby so great,” Hagedorn said. “We love the stories, connections, and interactions with fellow collectors and sports fans. In a fairly short time of having the shop, we’ve built so many meaningful relationships and we’re excited to expand on them as we start a card show.”

Hagedorn is truly passionate about the hobby, but even more so about what has spurred since it opened its doors: a whole new community. The upcoming card show will hopefully be the first of many, welcoming For the Hobby regulars and newbies alike.

“That’s one thing about us – we love to have fun and card shows are so fun. The energy at our card show will be second to none.”

Hagedorn welcomes all to the Eau Claire Card Show, ready to expand “The Card Family”, as he has grown to call the area hobbyists.
