‘We Care Eau Claire’ Offers Free Back-to-School Shopping

There are many things about the upcoming school year that are unknown for local kids. But whether they are learning in person or virtually at home, they will need school supplies. From 4:30-7:30pm on Monday, Aug. 24, at Carson Park, We Care Eau Claire – an organization composed of several local churches – will provide a free back-to-school shopping experience to serve underprivileged children and their families. Children will receive backpacks, school supplies, and more – all brand-name and brand-new to ensure that families receive a quality gift. “We would love to have as many people as possible volunteer for the event,” says Jordan Van Proosdy, the director of missions at Peace Church in Eau Claire. Volunteers will be needed to help restock school supplies, help families maneuver through the event, and just to be friendly faces. We Care Eau Claire is working with the City of Eau Claire to make sure the event has procedures in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19. It’s possible that some details may need to change, but the organizers are determined to hold the event however they can. “People in Eau Claire are helpers,” Van Proosdy says. “Plain and simple. They want to be helpful and reach out to those in need. It is so rare to see churches of different denominations working together with the local school district. It is amazing to see an event that brings people together instead of dividing them. In this environment, we all need to feel hope."
